Join the Antonine Trio in an entertaining and informative evening of music and conversation with their unique combination of voice, french horn and piano.

Drawing on their Scottish operatic experience and embracing music from across a wide variety of periods and styles, the group will take you on a historic journey from the medieval hunt to contemporary commissions in a programme full of musical detail and fascinating anecdotes, including music by Mozart and Strauss, Scots songs and Aesop’s Fables... and even some Flanders and Swann! 


Steven Faughey - Baritone

Steven was born in the North East of England and studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD) with Bill McCue and Jeff Nielson Taylor, graduating in 1990.

Since then, he has sung with the Chorus of Scottish Opera and has also appeared with the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company and Garsington Festival Opera. Steven has sung rôles in The Magic Flute, La Bohème, Tosca, Madama Butterfly and Il Barbiere di Siviglia, not forgetting his memorable performance of the Dead Body in Erwartung (mute)!

He has also appeared as Papageno in The Magic Flute, Falke in Die Fledermaus, and Ford in Falstaff,  and is highly sought after for his solo oratorio work.

Steven is also a founder member of Opera Alba.


Sue Baxendale - French Horn

Sue studied English Literature and Music at the University of Birmingham, before gaining a postgraduate diploma in performance from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. She freelanced on both Horn and Wagner Tuba in England for several years, before moving to Scotland in 1996 to take up the position of Section Principal Horn with The Orchestra of Scottish Opera.

Sue has worked extensively with orchestras across the UK. Her solo performances have included Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante on Radio 3 with BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and Haydn’s Horn Concerto no.2.

In recent years she has taken on Project Management roles, successfully putting together community ‘operatic’ projects using young singers and instrumentalists for, among others, Haddo Arts, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, The Lammermuir Festival and Milngavie Music Club. She is co-founder of the charitable organisation McOpera. She also teaches french horn at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Junior Dept, and Douglas Academy Music School.


Derek Clark - Piano

Derek was born in Glasgow and studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD) and the London Opera Centre.  He joined Welsh National Opera’s music staff in 1977 as a repetiteur and staff conductor, conducting a wide repertoire ranging from Handel and Mozart to Maxwell Davies and Stravinsky.


He is a regular guest coach at the National Opera Studio, the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.


He has recently retired from his role with Scottish Opera as Head of Music , which he took up in 1997. For them he has conducted Samson, The Magic Flute, Don Giovanni, The Marriage of Figaro, Cosi fan Tutte, Fidelio, Carmen, Rigoletto, La Traviata, Barber of Seville, L’Italiana in Algeri, La Bohème, Tosca, Madam Butterfly, and James MacMillan’s Ines de Castro. He also conducted all three seasons of the company’s Five:15 Operas made in Scotland project. He has also been instrumental in the company’s Gilbert and Sullivan revival over recent years.


Derek has also provided reduced orchestrations and condensed versions of operas for many Scottish Opera on Tour productions He continues to be much in demand as an arranger.
As an accompanist he plays regularly for soloists and enjoys chamber music. He is also the conductor of the Dundee Choral Society.
