This concert is the final performance in a collaboration involving soloists and young string players from Douglas Academy Music School, the Milngavie Music Club, and mentoring from professional musicians from McOpera, led and directed by Katie Hull. This has been funded by Chamber Music Scotland’s ‘Transition Fund’, and Music at St Cyprian’s role has been to provide a repeat performance as an important part of the learning experience for the young players.


Music Co-OPERAtive Scotland (McOpera) was formed in the spring of 2012 by musicians from The Orchestra of Scottish Opera to provide and generate a range of artistically exciting and diverse work in Scotland. Since that time, it has developed a wide portfolio of activity ranging from operatic productions, bespoke recording projects, orchestral performances and community outreach projects across a wide social and cultural demographic.

Recent activity includes critically acclaimed 5 star productions of large scale community operas for the Lammermuir Festival, with Britten’s Noye’s Fludde in 2016 and the premiere performance of Matthew Rooke’s community opera, An Cadal Trom in September 2018 (both produced by McOpera Outreach project manager Sue Baxendale). Another 5 star review was recently given for Virtual Vivaldi – a collaboration with the Bearsden Choir.

Music Co-OPERAtive Scotland performed the Scottish premiere of Fleishmann’s Rothschild’s Violin and the world premiere of Scottish composer Erik Chisholm’s opera Simoon (for Cottier Chamber Project 2014 and 2015, the latter released as a live performance on Delphian label in November 2016); Great Song of the North by Dominique le Gendre premiere for Berwick Maltings in 2018; an animated film production of Stravinsky’s The Soldier’s Tale with both full ensemble and piano trio versions; a commissioned piece for children’s chorus and ensemble by Peter Kemp (Milngavie Tales) plus a Young Musicians’ Portfolio Musicians Project for Milngavie Music Club (2018), and a performance project for young string players and children’s choir (2019); A Song for Haddo (for Primary School voices and High School strings) for the Haddo Arts Festival in 2017, 2018 and 2019, online in 2020 and a cut-down filmed performance for 2021; 20 Seaward St a co-production with ConFAB (2018)

Music Co-OPERAtive Scotland regularly accompanies vocal and choral ensembles across Scotland.
