Raj Bhaumik - clarinet
In September 2023 Raj Bhaumik started at the Royal Academy of Music on an ABRSM Scholarship, studying with Christopher Richards, Sonia Sielaff and Chi-Yu Mo. Prior to this he had studied at the Music School of Douglas Academy and Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Junior Conservatoire with Lawrence Gill, Alison Waller and Timothy Orpen and playing in masterclasses to Nicolas Baldeyrou.

Raj was in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain for 5 years, including 1 as principal clarinet, playing at multiple Proms and under notable conductors such as Mark Wigglesworth and Alexandre Bloch. In Spring 2023 he took part in the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House's mentorship programme, learning about opera and ballet repertoire from his mentor Marina Finnamore.

Raj has played concertos with the WSSO Trust Concert Band and Edinburgh Youth Orchestra (Scott McAllister: Black Dog) JRCS Symphony Orchestra (Finzi) and in the final of the Edinburgh Music Competition Festival Concerto Class (Weber.) In 2023 he won the Clarinet and Saxophone Society Young Clarinet Soloist Competition and the overall performance award for Glasgow Music Festival.

Previous chamber and solo engagements have included Moffat Music Society, Milngavie Music Club, St Cyprian's Lenzie, Rhu Sandwhich Concerts, St Bride's Church Hyndland, and homes for the elderly in Milngavie. He has also played on Radio Scotland's "Classics Unwrapped" and Radio 3's "In Tune."
